Celebrities recently honored: Recognizing achievement in entertainment

He was best known as Black Panther, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superhero. The actor died in 2013. Simone Ledward Boseman, his wife, accepted the awards in Boseman’s name, giving a poignant speech reflecting Boseman’s passion for acting. Boseman also received a posthumous honor from the Screen Actors Guild, making him the first African-American actor to receive a lead actor award.

She was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for “Ma Raney’s Black Bottom”. Davis was the first Black woman ever to receive two SAG Awards for best actress. The African American Film Critics Association also recognized her for her role in the film. This added another feather to Davis’ already dazzling cap. Davis has the record of the most Academy Award nods ever for a black actress, which is testament to her talent.

Taylor Swift is another celebrity worth mentioning. Swift, who released “Folklore”, “Evermore” and two chart-topping album in 2020, had a big evening at the 2021 iHeartRadio music awards where she won “Pop Album of the year”. Swift was also honored with the Global Icon Award, the first ever female to receive this award, at the BRITs 2021. The singer’s impact on the pop culture is evident in her numerous chart-topping records and unrestricted songwriting.

Bob Dylan, legendary musician and songwriter was recently also honored in a literary manner. Richard Thomas, renowned critic and author, praised the country singer’s work in a retrospective. The book “Why Bob Dylan matters” is not only a tribute for Dylan’s songwriting talent, but also acknowledges his social and political activism.

Sports also celebrated its heroes. Serena Williams, the tennis star, was recently named the Laureus World Sports Woman for the Year. She has won more Grand Slams than any other Open era player. Lebron James, the NBA star, received the Laureus World Sportsman of the year award for both his performance on the court and his work off the court, where he addresses social injustices, advocates education reform, and actively campaigns against it.
