Troubled hospitals record excess death rates… yet again

TWO troubled Scottish hospitals recorded almost 50 excess patient deaths in the final quarter of 2017, months after health chiefs said they were working to improve the dire record. A total of 391 patients passed away at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria from October to December, compared to the 346 deaths predicted by NHS statisticians.
