Chloe Zhao made history at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts 2021, becoming the first woman of colour to be awarded the Best Director award, and the second woman in history to receive the award. She won the award for “Nomadland” and was the first woman of any color. Zhao’s pioneering directorial skills were recognized again at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. She won the Best Director Award, becoming only the second Asian woman and the second woman of color to win the award. Chadwick BOSEMAN was also posthumously honored for his outstanding performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” at the same ceremony.
The 63rd Grammy Awards was a memorable event in the world of music. Beyonce, the musical powerhouse, was awarded 4 Grammys, bringing her total to 28. This is the record number of Grammys for a female singer and for any artist, male or woman. Blue Ivy Carter shared the Best Music Video Award with Beyonce for the song, “Brown Skin Girl”. This makes Blue Ivy the youngest Grammy winner ever. Taylor Swift won Album of the year for her album Folklore, becoming the first woman in history to win this category three times.
Television also received its share of awards. Critics’ Choice Awards are renowned for recognizing both film and TV. They recognized brilliant performances in both areas. Netflix’s position as a leader in television was cemented by the success of “The Crown”. Emma Corrin, Josh O’Connor and their respective roles as Prince Charles and Princess Diana were recognized with awards. Michaela Coel, on the other hand won the Best Actress Award for a Limited Series for her performance in “I May Destroy You”.

The charity amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, presented them with awards during its virtual “A Gala for Our Time”.
